San Jose State Locks Up Nessman Through 2013-14

San Jose State basketball coach George Nessman has signed a new contract that runs through the 2013-14 season. Terms were not disclosed.

Nessman had one year remaining on his old deal. A school spokesman said the agreement announced Thursday was not an extension but a new, three-year contract.

Nessman led the Spartans to a 17-16 record last season -- their first winning mark in 17 years and highest win total in three decades -- and a berth in the College Basketball Invitational.

"George took over our men's basketball program six years ago when it needed more than a cosmetic makeover," athletic director Tom Bowen said. "Systematically and methodically, he has put San Jose State on a sound footing ... ."
